Matching? CC? Final? LCC??? Und was ist denn jetzt eigentlich ein Au Pair? Manche Begriffe sind ganz schön verwirrend… Damit ihr aber auch alles versteht habe ich euch hier die wichtigsten Begriffe, die mir jetzt schon so eingefallen sind und ihre Bedeutung aufgelistet. Im Laufe der Zeit wird es denke ich noch mehr werden…ich wünsche euch viel Spaß beim Durchstöbern!! 😀
Matching? CC? Final? LCC??? And what exactly is an au pair? Some phrases can be very confusing… in the following I listed some terms and their definitions for you so that you can understand everything. I think from time to time there will be some things to add if a new word comes up. 😀
Au Pair
Au Pairs gibt es auf der ganzen Welt, sie leben bei einer Gastfamilie von der sie mit Unterkunft, Verpflegung und einem Taschengeld versorgt werden und passen im Gegenzug auf deren Kinder auf.
So jetzt wisst ihr zumindest mal worums hier geht und könnt in Ruhe weiter lesen.
Au pairs are living all over the world with their host families. They get board, lodging and a small stipend and in return care for their children. Now you know what this is about and can read on … 😀
Aifs / Apia
Aifs ist eine der 15 Au Pair Organisationen. Apia (Au Pair in America) ist ihre amerikanische Partnerorganisation.
Aifs is one of the 15 au pair organizations. Apia is its American partner agency.
Au Pair Meeting
Alle Au Pairs müssen jeden Monat an einem Treffen teilnehmen welches ihr LCC veranstaltet. Hier hat man die Möglichkeit andere Au Pairs kennen zu lernen.
All au pairs have to participate in an au pair meeting every month that is organized by their LCC. Like this they have the chance to meet other au pairs from their city or region.
Au Pair Organisationen
Falls man als Au Pair in den USA arbeiten will, ist eine Organisation Pflicht, da man dort ansonsten illegal arbeitet. Familien und Au Pairs melden sich bei den Organisationen an, werden überprüft und zum Programm zugelassen (oder abgelehnt). Durch die jeweilige Organisation können Familien und Au Pairs sich finden.
In case you want to work as an au pair in the USA an au pair organization is obligatory because otherwise it would be illegal. Families and future au pairs are applying, controlled and allowed to participate or not. With the help of the agencies families and au pairs can find each other.
Ayusa / Au Pair Care
Ayusa ist eine der 15 Au Pair Organisationen. Au Pair Care ist ihre amerikanische Partnerorganisation.
Ayusa is one of the 15 au pair agencies and AuPaircare is its partner in the USA.
CC
Dies ist die Abkürzung für meine Au-Pair-Organisation Cultural Care Au Pair, bei der ich angemeldet bin. 2014 feiert CC seine 25. Geburtstag, was zeigt dass die Organisation schon seeehr viel Erfahrung hat. Sie ist eine Unterorganisation von EF, das ihr vielleicht von Sprachreisen oder ähnlichem kennt.
This is the short form of the organization Cultural Care Au Pair that I applied for. In 2014 CC celebrated its 25th birthday what shows its experience. This agency belongs to EF whet is known for its language study travels.
Current Au Pair
engl. aktuelles/derzeitiges Au Pair. Hiermit bezeichnet man das jetzige Au Pair in einer Familie, um von ehemaligen und dem eventuellen neuen Au Pair zu unterscheiden.
The au pair who is currently living in a host family.
Exchange AuPair
Eine der 15 Au Pair Organisationen. Der Vorteil ist, dass diese Organisation auch bereits ausgefüllte Referenzen von/für anderen Organisationen annimmt.
Exchange AuPair is one of the 15 au pair agencies. Advantage: they take full references that were written for other agencies.
Familienvorschlag (FV) (=Match) (host family match)
Die Familien suchen sich die Au Pairs aus. Ist eine Familie an einem Au Pair interessiert, kann sie ihre vollständige Bewerbung ansehen. Das Au Pair wird informiert und kann jetzt auch alle Infos über die Familie sehen, die ebenfalls eine Bewerbung ausfüllen musste. Leider ist man, solange eine Familie deine Bewerbung anschaut, für die anderen Familien nicht mehr sichtbar.
Außerdem ist ein FV nur ein Vorschlag und es gibt noch keine Garantie, dass diese Familie später die Gastfamilie wird! Oft gehen die Gastfamilien auch schnell wieder aus dem Account heraus, und man muss auf den zweiten oder dritten Match warten.
The families search for their future au pair. When a family is interested in an au pair they can overview the whole application of an participant. The au pair is informed and can now also see all the information about the family who also had to fill out an application. The host family and the au pair can reach each other over e-mail. Disadvantage: When a family is currently overlooking an application you are not available for other families.
Furthermore a host family match is only a suggestion and often it is not the final match of an au pair. Sometimes the families leave your account very fast and not even contact you. Like this, the au pair has to wait for the next family match.
Final (Match)
Der “Final” ist die Host Family, für die sich ein Au Pair am Ende des Matchings entscheidet und bei der das AU Pair dann letztendlich wohnt und arbeitet. Dabei muss sowohl das Au Pair, als auch die Familie zustimmen.
“Final” is the name for the final host family that has selected an au pair and the au pair them. The au pair will spend his or her year with this family caring for their children.
“Freigeschaltet sein”
Wenn ein Au Pair die Bewerbung fertiggestellt hat und sie für die Familien sichtbar wird ist man offiziell freigeschaltet und die Familiensuche kann somit beginnen.
Host family
engl. Gastfamilie, mit Hostmum (Gastmutter), Hostdad (Gastvater) und Hostkids (Kinder).
Host-Family-Letter
engl. Gastfamilienbrief. Ein Brief, den man bei der Bewerbung an die Gastfamilien schreiben kann. In ihm stellt sich das Au Pair vor.
This letter is written by an au pair in the application. The au pair introduces herself to potential host families.
Infant qualified (iq)
engl. Säuglingsqualifiziert. Auch “U2”. Au Pairs, die infant qualified sind, dürfen auch auf Kinder unter zwei Jahren aufpassen. Dafür müssen sie mindestens 200 Stunden Erfahrungen mit nicht-verwandten Kindern in dem Alter vorweisen können.
Au pairs who are infant qualified have 200 or more hours with children under the age of 2.
Interview (1)
Das Interview ist Bestandteil der Bewerbung. Das Au Pair wird von einem Organisationsmitarbeiter interviewt und anschließend beurteilt, ob sie ein fähiges Au Pair abgeben wird und wie hoch die Englischkenntnisse sind.
The Interview is part of the application. The au pair is interviewed by an agency staff who evaluates at the end his or her English level and if the person can become an au pair or not.
Interview (2)
Dies ist ein persönliches Interview zwischen Au Pair und Gastfamilie. Beide Seiten stellen Fragen bzw. bauen ein Gespräch auf, um später entscheiden zu können, ob man zusammen arbeitet. Oftmals geschieht dies per Skype, Telefon wird aber auch benutzt.
Another interview is between the au pair and the potential host family mostly via Skype. Both sides are introducing themselves and ask question to decide afterwards if the au pair or the host family fits.

Infotreffen (information meeting)
Die werden von den verschiedenen Organisationen veranstaltet um zukünfitge Au Pairs über die Organisation und das allgemeine Au Pair leben zu informieren. Meistens ist auch ein ehemaliges Au Pair vor Ort das von ihrem Jahr erzählt.
An information meeting is organized by some agencies to inform potential au pair about the organization and the life as an au pair in general. Sometimes there is also an former au pair who tells about the experiences during the au pair year.
Local Childcare Coordinator (LCC)
auch: Area Director. Sie leiten in Amerika bestimmte Gebiete, meistens bei größeren Städten. Sie sind für die in ihrem Gebiet lebenden Gastfamilien und Au Pairs zuständig und sind deren Ansprechpartner bei Problemen, Fragen etc. Monatlich gibt es ein Treffen mit dem LCC und allen Au Pairs aus der Nähe.
also: Area director. They lead a certain area, mostly near bigger cities and are responsible for the au pairs and their host families in this area. Both sides can address themselves to their LCC if there are any questions or problems and there is an au pair meeting every month.
Match (siehe auch Familienvorschlag)
eng. Übereinstimmung. Es soll eigentlich die finale Familie bezeichnen, wird aber oft als Ausdruck für eine neue interessierte Familie verwendet.
“Match” shall name the final match between host family and au pair but sometimes it is used for a new family suggestion.
matchen
eng. zusammenfügen, zusammenpassen. Das Au Pair und die Gastfamilie haben sich für einander entschieden und wollen zusammenarbeiten.
This verb is used when au pair and host family decide to spend their year together.
Matching Process
Die Phase vor Ausreise, in der sich interessierte Familien bei einem Au Pair melden können.
The period of time when the application of an au pair is available for the host families and they can get to know each other.
Online Account
Hier seht ihr wenn ihr freigeschaltet seid eure Familienvorschläge, hilfreiche Informationen (auch die MyAuPairCourses) sowie später auch eure Flugdaten und vieles mehr. Bei einigen Organisationen wird der Online Account auch Au Pair Room genannt.
In this account you can see your potential host families when you are in the matching process, helpful information (plus the MyAuPairCourses) and later the flight dates and so on. Some agencies call it “Au Pair Room”.
Preparation Workshop
Ein Workshop mit anderen baldigen Au Pairs, bei dem man nochmal zusätzliche Infos erhält. Dieses Treffen ist jedoch freiwillig, ich persönlich fand es aber sehr gut.
This a workshop to get further information about being an au pair. It is voluntary but in my opinion it is really good.
Physician’s Health Evaluation (Gesundheitszeugnis)
Das ist ein Formular welches euch euer Hausarzt ausfüllt um eure Gesundheit zu bestätigen.
This is a certificate that has to be filled out by your doctor to confirm your health.
Referenzen (references)
Diese sind für die Bewerbung notwendig und belegen Kinderbetreuungserfahrungen (=childcare reference). Mindestens 200h sind ein Muss!
Außerdem gibt es noch persönliche Referenzen (=personal reference).
Man sollte mindestens drei Referenzen haben, darunter min. eine “childcare reference”.
References are a part of your application and prove you childcare experience (childcare reference). A minimum of 200 hours of childcare experience are necessary! Additionally there are personal references. You should have 3 references and at least one childcare reference.
Rematch
eng. Neuauflage. Wenn es mit der Gastfamilie nicht richig klappt, kann das Au Pair die Familie wechseln. Dabei befindet es sich zwei Wochen lang auf Familiensuche. Falls in diesen zwei Wochen keine Familie gefunden werden kann, muss das Au Pair auf eigene Kosten heimfahren.
If an au pair and the host family are not fitting together or if there are some huge problems an au pair can change its family. He or she has 2 weeks time to find a new family while being back in matching. If there is no new family the au pair has to pay the ticket home.

eng. Hausfrau/-mann und Mutter/Vater
Stipendium (=scholarship)
Ein Wettbewerb von Cultural Care in Deutschland, bei dem man sich mit einem Video bewerben kann, das man auf YouTube stellt und dann so viele Likes wie möglich sammelt. Der Gewinner bekommt den Programmpreis bezahlt und muss im Gegenzug einen Blog erstellen, der auf der CC-Website als Beispiel für zukünftige Au Pairs genommen wird.
This is a challenge of Cultural Care in Germany where you can apply with a video on YouTube. The winner does not have to pay the program fee and has to create a blog that is published on the website of CC.
Trainingschool
Vor Beginn der Arbeitszeit muss ein Training zusammen mit anderen Au Pairs abgelegt werden. Bei CC ist dies in NY auf Long Island.
Before joining the host family an au pair gets further information while being together with other au pairs in the Trainingschool. The CC Trainingschool is located in Long Island, NY.
Video
Dieses ist für die Bewerbung hilfreich (aber kein MUSS). Dort stellt sich das Au Pair vor, zeigt sein Leben, Kinderbetreuungserfahrungen etc. Die Gastfamilien können sich das Video anschauen.
A video is very helpful in the Matching process but it is voluntary with CC. The au pair introduces him- or herself, shows his or her life, the childcare experiences etc. The host families can watch this video before overviewing the whole application of an au pair.
